About the Rose:

Originally a Vaudeville playhouse, the Rose Theatre opened on Taylor Street in 1907. Through the decades, the Rose transitioned from live stage performances to silent films, talkies, Technicolor, a shoe repair shop, a junk store, and in 1992 was restored by Phil Johnson, Rocky Friedman and countless community volunteers, donors, and investors. Over the past 30 years, our beloved theatre has converted from film to digital projection and grown from a single original auditorium to three unique screens. The Rose Theatre hosts the Port Townsend Film Festival each year and brings together communities from across the Olympic Peninsula to explore and celebrate independent arthouse cinema, dance, music, opera, and theatre from around the globe. To experience a film at the Rose Theatre, Rosebud Cinema or the Starlight Room is to be welcomed into Port Townsend's living room, where the popcorn is organic, the butter is real, the sound is superb, and every show is personally introduced.
